Description:
After installing server version 8.4 I cannot upgrade my existing 8.3 instance as I cannot get past the first screen which tells me that my root password is not correct.

How to repeat:
Have a running instance of 8.3 using PCP/IP on port 3306.
Install server version 8.4.
Run 8.4 configurator.
On the first screen enter the password for user 'root' and press 'connect'.
This will show the details of the 8.3 instance which will be replaced, but with a red 'X', and the 'Next' button will not be available.

Suggested fix:
Find out why it cannot connect to the existing instance. The password is correct as I use the same one with my client program HeidiSQL.

Hello Anthony Marston,

Thank you for the bug report.
I tried to reproduce your issue on windows 11 with MySQL Configurator 8.4 with running MySQL Server 8.3 but I am not seeing any issues at my end. Please see the screenshot attached.

The difference is that all your directories are the default ones on the C: drive whereas my directories are on different drives, specifically:

Install directory: E:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.3
Data directory: F:\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.3

Can your software work with those different directories?
