Description:
It appears that the Mac OS 10.3.x installer for mysql 4.1.12 does not also install a copy of mysql.sock anywhere on the machine. It should go in /tmp/mysql.sock

I attempted multiple installs with packaged downloaded from various mirrors, and none of them installed mysql.sock.

Thanks for your time.

How to repeat:
Download/install. Check /tmp for mysql.sock

Correcting my previous post:

I was able to get things working by first installing 4.0.x and then 4.1.12 after. It appears therefore that there is something missing in the 4.1.12 fresh install.

I was incorrect in thinking it was mysql.sock, as that is apparently a temporary file which is only in the /tmp directory if mysqld is running. Apologies for the incorrect initial diagnosis.
