I get the same error when trying to connect to a remote server. I also get this error when using the MySQL Query Browser 1.1.0-alpha.

Unknown system variable 'sql_mode' (code 1193) I get the same error on 3 different mySQL servers. So I can not test or try at all. Im using OSX 10.3.9 Server on various mySQL 4.0x

Thank you for your bug report. This issue has been committed to our source repository of that product and will be incorporated into the next release. If necessary, you can access the source repository and build the latest available version, including the bugfix, yourself.
