Description:
When you use the View > Panel > show secondary sidebar or if it said hide secondary sidebar or click on the icon it closes out Workbench.

I tried to reproduce your issue on windows 10 with workbench 8.0.33 but I am not seeing any issues at my end. If you can provide more information, feel free to add it to this bug. Thanks.
