I am having the same issue described by this bug. Steps to reproduce:
1. Have a fresh install of 8.0.28 (community version)
2. Open MySQL Workbench, an error occurs of missing an image (lets me proceed)
3. Attempt to connect to root user connection and bug of "Parameter is not valid." pops up and alerts to report the bug in the "Unexpected Error" window.
4. Application no longer allows interaction.
