Description:
On both Local Instance 3306 (localhost) and My Connection 127.0.0.1:3306, both root user, Local Server Logs will not open with "Error creating log reader: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/mysql/data/mysqld.local.err'".  When creating a New Connections following Workbench section 5.2 (tutorial), I get Error: error calling Python module function WbAdmin.testInstanceSettingByName when checking My SQL Configuration File  - Host Machine Settings and On Information about MySQL configuration I'm told that "The config file section is invalid".  I have screen shots of the errors available.

(I have Python 3 installed on my iMac)

I can access mysql on the command line and I have installed the sakila database (using schema and data.sql files.

I did not have any of these problems using MySQL 8.0.23, Workbench 8.0.22, and macOS BigSur.

How to repeat:
This has happened on 3 re-installs and about 6 New Connections, installing from mysql-8.0.28-macos11-x86_64.dmg and mysql-workbench-community-8.0.28-macos-x86_64.dmg

To investigate further this issue at our end, may I kindly request you to launch workbench under debug mode (--log-level=debug3) and provide unaltered workbench log file(more details about log are explained here - https://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/workbench-reporting-bugs.html) along with screenshot? 7 April 2022.  Attached copy of wb.log from this morning.  I opened Workbench, changed log "chattiness" to debug 3, then tried to open server logs and received error (ERRNO13).  I then added another connection named MyTestConnection, and server management wizrd returned error "Config File invalid".

I have done a "clean" install of MySQL 8.0.29, and the issues that I originally reported in this bug remain
-installed the latest versions of MySQL, Workbench, MySQL-Shell, MySQL Connector/ODBC, and MySQL Python Connector, no errors
-tested server start & stop from System Preferences OK
-used the Workbench manual tutorial to create MyConnection in Workbench, no errors during creation, and my.cnf was created without issue, but a warning cropped up that the mysqld config file was invalid (same error as shown in http://bugs.mysql.com/file.php?id=31436
-cannot start or stop server from Workbench, and I did not try to change anything from the installed defaults in the Options file or the connection start stop commands
-trying to open Server Logs in Workbench generates error message: Could not open error log file: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/mysql/data/mysqld.local.err'

I have installed the Sakila database and tested it's functionality using Workbench.  Views and functions work and I was able to create a dump file without any problems.  MySQL and Workbench appear to be stable and I have not experienced any crashes with either 8.0.28 or 8.0.29 versions.

A correction to my comments on installation of MySQL 8.0.29.  When I created a new Connection I received an error message "on the Configure Local Management Panel "Error: error calling Python module function WbAdmin.testinstanceSettingsByName".  This was the same error I encounterd and reported in the original Bug report, see http://bugs.mysql.com/file.php?id=31433

Thanks for the response but I cannot access Bug #82600 via the link you gave me nor a search of all Bugs.  I'd be interested in seeing it!

This affects me too on Windows 2016 with Version 8.0.31

Resolved on Windows.  Had to run Workbench as Administrator and then I could view logs and save options, etc.
