It seems to be related to having `@` in the username, it's a little challenging to say for certain though. In my situation, it may also be specific to how Azure does their database auth. I'm connecting on Windows 10 using Python 3.9.9 to a managed Azure instance of MariaDB 10.2.23. Version 8.0.26 connects without issue.
