Bug #105389	MySQL workbench 8.0.27 CE on OSX 11.6.1 (big Sur) says the OS is not supported

Description:
I thought I'd be good after reading the October Oracle CPU and update my infrequently upgraded MySQL Workbench and downloaded and installed the latest version from mysql.com.

On startup I get a popup saying "Unsupported Operating System" You are running Workbench on an unsupported operating system. While it may work for you just fine, it wasn't designed to run on your platform. Please keep this in mind if you run into problems.

I checked My OS: Big Sur, Version 11.6.1 (20G224) recently updated. Monterey is available but I have not upgraded yet. (I'm on x86_64).

I double checked the page I'd downloaded the OSX package from:
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/ has a link to OSX packages. There is no mention anywhere of which versions are supported. Implicitly I'd expect the downloaded dmg to just work. If I have to be aware about what is supported or not I'd expect to see that indicated somewhere.

https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/ makes no reference to supported operating systems or platforms so no help there.

How to repeat:
Download workbench on a mac, say like the one I'm using with the given OSX version (x86_64) and see if it gives the same error on startup.

Suggested fix:
Suggested fixes:
- confirm the version of workbench in the popup to clarify just in case I am using an old version of workbench and the OS might be "too new"
- if possible make workbench describe the version it expects to see
- provide documentation on https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/ as to which versions of OSX (and other OSes) you have built workbench for and which you think will work

Hello Simon,

Thank you for the report and feedback.
Verifying based on code review.

regards,
Umesh

thanks for confirming.
Monterey is also out. I'm not (quite) using it yet so not sure what version it reports itself as but if you support usage on Monterey it would be good to make any fixes include that too.

I am having this same pop up on my Mac? how am I supposed to fix this?

Thanks

This issue applies to the legacy MySQL Workbench 8.x implementation that is no longer supported or maintained.
MySQL Workbench 26.7 is a complete rewrite using a new technology stack and does not use the affected legacy implementation.
Therefore, this issue is not applicable to the current MySQL Workbench product and as such is closed.
