Thank you for the bug report. Workaround is to install first version X64 and then download the package mysql-connector-odbc-8.0.16-win32.msi and install it. https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/

Hi Miguel, Thank you for verifying the issue. That is also the workaround I have been using. I gave it a high severity, because I felt that it doesn't make a good first impression when you have to download a separate installer to work around a deficiency in the unified installer, which would typically be your first contact with the product. Posted by developer: This fix was superseded by a change in how MySQL Installer supports connectors. Bug affects no released version. No changelog entry needed. Closed.
