Description:
When using the installer to install the ODBC connector on 64-bit Windows you can only select either the 32-bit or 64-bit ODBC connector, not both. If there are both 32-bit and 64-bit database applications on the computer then some of them will not be able to connect to the MySQL database.

How to repeat:
Start a custom install via the installer on 64-bit Windows. Select the option to install the ODBC connector. Notice that you can only elect to install either the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version of the connector, not both.

Suggested fix:
Option 1: Allow the user to elect to install either or both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC connectors.

Option 2: On 32-bit Windows install only the 32-bit ODBC driver, and on 64-bit Windows always install both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC connectors.

For a non-custom or complete install I think it should default to installing both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC connectors on 64-bit Windows. That will be the least error prone solution.

Thank you for the bug report. Workaround is to install first version X64 and then download the package mysql-connector-odbc-8.0.16-win32.msi and install it.

Hi Miguel,

Thank you for verifying the issue. That is also the workaround I have been using.

I gave it a high severity, because I felt that it doesn't make a good first impression when you have to download a separate installer to work around a deficiency in the unified installer, which would typically be your first contact with the product.

This fix was superseded by a change in how MySQL Installer supports connectors.
Bug affects no released version. No changelog entry needed. Closed.
