Category:MySQL Server: Installing Severity:S1 (Critical)
Version: OS:Windows (10)
Assigned to: CPU Architecture:x86 (64 bit pro)

Description:
I have tried on multiple fresh machines to install mysql but the server fails to install with no indication why.
I have attached a copy of the installer logs.

How to repeat:
take a fresh windows 10 machine and attempt to install mysql. you can select, developer, server only, custom or full it doesn't matter. go through to the steps that gets you to the execute of the installer. the installer will get to 89% then drops to 50% then fails. the log doesn't show any error message. I have reported this through sales but they haven't been helpful except to say buy support for a product they cannot install! The windows laptop is an HP ZBook 17in with Xeon processor and 64 GB of RAM. The only additional software installed currently on the laptop is the windows updates.

Suggested fix:
make the installer actually install the software

I'm sorry to hear of your experience, in general installation issue is mostly observed for missing prerequisites such as Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributable etc and which usually seen in the installation log etc.

I don't see any unusual thing in the provided logs, only thing which is unusual in the report is that of "CPU Architecture: x86".
Imho - MySQL 8.0 is only available as 64-bit on Windows which can also be confirmed from the supported platform list available at - https://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/database.html

Are you using Windows 10 - 32 bit OS? Thank you!

regards,
Umesh

We are utilizing MS Windows 10 64 bit. I have checked and we have all the pre-requisites installed.
[27 Sep 2018 20:44] Joshua Berman
I have reformatted the machine twice now, have not installed anything but the prerequisites but the installer still fails to install server. This is frustrating that you cannot install your product.

Hi, I having the same problem. I am unable to install mysql-installer-community-8.0.12.0.msi, windows installer reaches to 80 % and again went back to 50% and failed to install though Visual Studio 2017 Redistributable package is already installed. I have tried to install Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3 package too but it didn't work out. How can I solve this problem. can you explain me in details. I have attached the log file above.

Please try version 8.0.15.

Same problem. Ran the 8.0.15 installer on my new Windows 10 Pro (1803) laptop with Intel i5 CPU, 8GB RAM. Was able to install Workbench, connectors, documentation, but fails to install the Server itself.

Tried multiple options in Custom Install, then Server Only, without success. Tried both the web version and the community download version of the installer without success. Disabled my anti-virus without success. Fully uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Ran using an Admin elevated command prompt without success. Installed Visual C++ 2015, then uninstalled, tried with Visual C++ 2017 without success, uninstalled, tried Visual C++ 2015 with latest patches without success. ??!!...

Always the same error, goes to 89%, then 50%, and Failed on ExecSecureObjects.

Possible suggestion for troubleshooting/replicating the error, since it may be security related:
My laptop is not joined to a domain. It runs under my Microsoft account.

I'm having the same problem that everyone else here is having. Trying to install on a brand new Windows 10 64 bit
[9 Aug 2019 22:33] MySQL Verification Team
Please try version 8.0.17. I couldn't repeat on below Windows 10 Pro machine:
d:\dbs>wmic computersystem get model,name,manufacturer,systemtype
Manufacturer Model Name SystemType
LG Electronics 15Z970-E.BH91P1 URAL x64-based PC
[21 Aug 2019 14:03] Niels Duijndam
Still the same error with 8.0.17 on Windows 10 Pro (version 1903 - x64).

As far as I can see, this error exists for well over a year already. It seems to me nobody is actually trying to solve this, or the cause would have been clear by now.

I'm using a machine with two Xeon X5570 CPU's (x64) and 24Gb.

All the latest updates installed, .Net Framework installed (didn't make a difference, but I thought to see a simular related error elsewhere), VC redistributable installed, no difference.

The one thing I can imagine is not standard, was that I already had the MySQL Workbench previously installed.

the issue still occurs. its frustrating that your documentation is preventing the software from installing properly. this issue has been open for over a year. and many people have been able to reproduce yet you have done nothing to fix your install issues except tell us to try again.

I've the same problem.

I have the same issue. No way to install mysql server in any version... Is someone can help?
[25 Nov 2019 15:54] Claire PIERRECLOS
I can install the mysql server 5.7.17 from the mysql-installer-web-community-5.7.28.0.msi.
It seems an issue with the mysql-installer-web-community-8.0.18.0.msi and the last versions...

I have the same error. PLEASE HELP!!!
[2 Sep 2020 9:35] clem clem
Same here on 8.0.21 (latest) (mysql-installer-web-community-8.0.21.0) on a 64 bit system, same symptoms, infinite load at 50%, cant even cancel the installer.
Fresh windows 10 x64 install.
[2 Sep 2020 9:44] clem clem
SUGGESTED FIX : After shutdown the installer, the pop up windows for asking install confirmation popped. That windows should've popped before but didnt, that why the installer locks at 50%.

Shut it down in task manager and execute the installer again, the windows should pop up and allow the installer to run.

Can be a pb exclusive to monitored devices in organizations controlling installs.
