I have since discovered that it will eventually recover from the hang, but it takes several minutes. Eventually a dialog box comes up that says: Could not acquire management access for administration Exception: Unsupported administration target type: ('windows', 'linux', 'wmi') with buttons beneath the message that say "Settings..." and "Cancel".
