Please, check if the same problem still happens with a recent version, 5.2.34.

I dumped a new db sql file with version 5.2.34

Under ACTIONS, Execute SQL File I was able to import [< 1 minute] the db on WIN7 and Vista pc's. With the previous version, this did not start running.

Under Data Export and Restore, Import from Self-Contained File, I do not get an error msg while Import is running... but it never creates the schema or creates the tables on either pc. Msg so far after 20 minutes of waiting:

11:51:23 Restoring C:\AccessHdb\HDBMySQL\Dump20110728.sql

Running: "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysql.exe" "--defaults-extra-file="c:\users\daniel~1\appdata\local\temp\tmp3gjzch.cnf" " --host=localhost --user=root --port=3306 --default-character-set=utf8 --comments < "C:\\AccessHdb\\HDBMySQL\\Dump20110728.sql"

-----------
Also the Win7 pc has a graphics problem the Vista pc does not:
The Data Export and Restore, Log 'Scrolling Text Box' loses it's box frame and scroll bars when the MySQL Workbench window is resized. The text remains visable on the gray background.
