Description:
I got a serious issue. Mysql in server 2008 R2 is currently stuck at staring at services. I tried to stop the process and restart the service. It doesn't solve the problem. It happen when I did a windows update for this.

How to repeat:
Do I need to reinstall mysql in order to fix this???

What exact version of MySQL server, 5.1.x, do you use? Please, send the entire error log of MySQL server (this is usually a <hostname>.err file in the datadir).

Maybe you have just to unblock mysqld.exe at the firewall level...

@Alex: You probably got Servicepack 1 installed (it was released for 2008-R2 and Win7 around a week ago). I have no such problem with SP1 for Win7.

It manages to start up again after another reboot I then ended the services then start it again. Does it have to do with the firewall? This issue happen after I started up the firewall in the server, but is there any method of adding an exception for mySQL in server2008R2?

I checked the error and found out I got this error.

Is this a big issue for this kind of OS?

Will giving MySql access to the firewall fix this? I don't want to depend on luck to make MySql work.
[2 Mar 2011 8:17] Valeriy Kravchuk
Yes, you should allow MySQL server (mysqld.exe) to start and allow access to port 3306.
[3 Mar 2011 1:09] Alex Woo
For port 3306 is it better to either use TCP or UDP or both of them?
[3 Mar 2011 7:06] Valeriy Kravchuk
MySQL server uses TCP.
[4 Mar 2011 6:23] Alex Woo
Thanks the bug is gone. Can't believe a firewall exception actually fixed this.
[4 Mar 2011 6:54] Valeriy Kravchuk
So, this problem was not a result of any bug in MySQL code.
