Thank you for the bug report. Could you please describe step by step the install process you did (options selected) also look for the my.ini file and attach it here if it exists. Thanks in advance.

Hi Miguel Before I start: - I tried to get back to do a clean install but it never worked. 1) I used the Server Config Wizard to remove any instances. 2) I Used the control panel to remove MySql Server. 3) I deleted all folders (ie C:\Programs\MySql and D:\Msql Datafiles\ ) Everything appears to be removed (nothing in the Services manager) however when I try a fresh install I am still prompted to re-enter the root password (hmmmmm ... that got me thinking). I repeated steps 1), 2) and 3) AND this time I manually typed in the folder directory C:\Users\All Users\ (this isn't visible by default) .. then I found another folder called MySql. After deleting THAT folder I have been able to reinstall MySql successfully. Hooray :-) NOW ... after installing MySql WorkBench 5.2 CE it breaks MySql :-( I changed the default db path in Workbench to be D:\Msql Datafiles\ If I try and restart MySql server if fails with error 1067 So perhaps this is a Workbench issue? *back to the drawing board* ------------------------------------------------------------------- To answer your question: MySql install. Start installer ->Typical. --> Install to C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\ Configure ->Detailed -->Server --->Multi ---->InnoDB tablespace D:\MySql DataFiles\ -----> Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) ------>Enable TCP/IP port 3306 (firewall not enabled) + Enable Strict. ------->Standard Char. Set (Latin1) -------->Install as a Windows Service ---------> Enter password details. No anonymous and no root access from remote. Hope that helps. Cheers Martin

Your Workbench problem was a bug in Workbench that is already resolved in actual version. Anyway, please try to install MySQL without installer and let us know if this will work fine.

Posted by developer: This relates to EOL (no longer supported) versions of MySQL Server. Furthermore, the old plain msi installers have been superseded by the MySQL Installer for Windows. Thus closing.
