Description:
Workbench randomly (but frequently) crashes when using it. No specific action is required to have it crash. Sometimes, it's when opening a diagram, sometimes after opening two or more tables in edit mode, sometimes after switching forth to and back from other Windows applications.

The result of a crash is usually that noting happens when trying to edit a table in a new window, the Physical Schemata tab disappears and cannot be opened, the Zoom does not react, etc.

My Vista is running stable with other applications. I have 2GB RAM installed. The crash happens even with no other application running; it just takes longer for the crash to appear.

How to repeat:
Use Workbench, edit tables in new windows, zoom in/out, switch to other Windows applications and back to Workbench.

Frank,

we also recognised it and we are looking why this could happen. Many thanks that you changed the values back.

What do you exactly mean with crash?
Do you mean the programm don't react or will the process (task manager) just disappear?
[10 Sep 2008 12:23] Frank Quosdorf
hmm, in essence, certain features (e.g. the Physical Schemata tab, the content of the Slidebar) partially disappear. As for the Physical Schemata tab, the table listing (content of this tab) disappears). The header of this tab is still visible. Remaining tabs/graphical components can be clicked, but nothing is actioned anymore on these clicks. The Sidebar can be toggled, but the content will not be visible. When double clicking on the MySQL Model tab, the content of the MySQL Model tab (tables, etc) is visible again, but when right-clicking on a table and request it to be opened for editing, nothing is actioned. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't this known bug of MySQL Workbench losing default values upon closing the program or project (http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=38825) which I have reported yesterday, but funnily enough, the bug report got missing. This drive me just nuts as I have to restart Workbench twice per hour now with all default values gone;-) Anyway, I hope my description gives a hint.

Please, try to repeat with a newer version, 5.0.25, and inform about the results.

tried with latest version 5.0.25. The program does not crash anymore. Also, default values are properly stored and visible when closing and opening the program.

So the problem is fixed in recent versions, it seems.
