I can confirm that I am seeing the exact same behavior. My info is: Client Machine: Microsoft Windows XP Pro, SP2 Server Machine (running both MySQL Server and Query Browser): - OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, SP1 (w/all patches) - HW: Dual Intel Xeon 2.80 Ghz CPUs 3.50 GB of RAM MySQL Server Version: MySQL 5.0.27-community-nt via TCP/IP MySQL Query Browser: 1.2.5 beta Using Windows Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) to connect to the server, the query editing area is blank and when I try to enter characters into it various buttons (like go back, next and refresh) start turning off and on. Also, at that point the editing area becomes slightly grayish as if it is disabled. I tried loading a .SQL text file into the area and it did not show, but I was able to save-as the text back to a different file. Lastly, I used RealVNC to connect to the server machine and the Query Browser editing area worked fine.

Thank you for the bug report. I was unable to repeat with W2K and XP Pro SP2. I attached a screenshot showing QB on remote desktop.

2006.11.24 : Yes, I also did'nt had the problem. The only thing I did is to "patch" Windows XP Server 2003 (with IE 7) and XP Pro SP2 (with IE 7 too) with the monthly securities patches.....

with the patches, I got the IE 7 as security patch....before, I did'nt have IE 7 on my machines.

I have the same problem with 1.2 beta (5.0-r6), I had to install something higher than r2 because the script there keeps executing things twice. Mind you, I also have the problem mstsc'ing to a windows 2003 server, blank edit windows for query/script, even if you select-all, you don't see anyting, not even the cursor.

I feel it's fair to comment that after a reboot (windows automatic updates) of the server, I gave it a shot again, and it did work fine (I tried mstsc from the local network, with full colors/theme and so, which also worked)... No idea why it didn't work at once...

I just received notification of the above comment from Peter Velens (of 11 Dec 21:39) and as it happens, I had just installed the MySQL GUI tools (mysql-gui-tools-5.0-r5-win32.msi) and was experiencing the same problem again. I rebooted the server (luckily, this was not a production server) and the problem was, in fact, gone. I went back and retested on the previous server where I had the problem (which is a production server, but has been rebooted since I first reported the issue on November 20th) and the problem no longer existed there either. So, while there does still seem to be an issue, there is a workaround which will have varying degrees of acceptibility based on the nature of the machine where the problem is reproducing.
