Description:
When Query Browser is started, no matter what method is used, the error occurs and then Query Browser fails to respond to the user.  Must use "End Task" in the Task Manager to terminate the Query Brower.

How to repeat:
1. Start Query Browser.

I too am having this problem. I'm running windows Vista Beta 1 x64 edition. AMD64 3500+ with 1gb pc3500 ram.

Can't repeat on plain XP Professional with mysql-query-browser-1.1.13-win.msi downloaded on August 4th, 2005. It was installed successfully and simply works.  Should I provide a screenshot?

Upon startup it shows a a dialog box with "Connect to MySQL Server Instance" group, where you have to either select Stored Connection (created peviously) from the combo box, or provide usual host, port, username, password and default schema (database) for the initial connection and press OK.

So, please, give the additional information (service packs used, is it SP2, is DEP activated then, is any antivirus software installed, any error messages during installation) for me to repeat this behaviour.

no error messages during installation, all Windows security patches up to now are applied.
server is running Trend Micro OfficeScan 7 (engine 7.510.1002) too

I have the same problem with mysql-query-browser-1.1.14-win.msi downloaded today (27.08.2005). I'am running XP Professional with SP2 and all available patches. 
It occurs immediately after starting the program. No submenus appear when clicking on a menu. The window is not moveable or resizeable. Application has to be killed with the task manager.

Same result on Windows XP Professional with SP2 and Windows XP Home with SP2.

I have the same result on my laptop with Windows XP Professional with SP2 with Symantec Antivirus and on my desktop with Windows XP Home with SP2 with PC Tools Suite.  I have disabled Antivirus on both computers and still get same result on both.  I started with a reduced set of start ups with the same result.

I have deinstalled and reinstalled MySqlQueryBrowser and still have the same result.  My laptop has a 1.13GHz Pentium III and my Desktop has a 3.06GHz Pentium IV CPU.

Both of these result in the problem (assumes that you have already created a database):

1. Start MySql Administrator, select a table, right click, select Edit Table Data, MySqlQueryBrowser opens displays data, shows "Access violation at address 005B4798 in module 'MySqlQueryBrowser.exe'".  No interaction with MySqlQueryBrowser is possible.  Only way to close is to use Task Manager to kill it.

2. Start MySQL Query Browser, connect to a MySQL Server, select a schema, shows "Access violation at address 005B4798 in module 'MySqlQueryBrowser.exe'".  No interaction with MySqlQueryBrowser is possible.  Only way to close is to use Task Manager to kill it.

I deinstalled MySQL Query Browser, MySQL Administrator, and MySQL and then reinstalled and my laptop now works without the error.  I did the same on my desktop and it still has the error.

That is what I know.  What other information might help you to debug.

Could you delete all files found in 

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\MySQL

and try to start the Query Browser again? This sounds like a corrupted history file.

I deleted the files mysqlqb_options.xml, mysqlqb_history.xml and mysqlqb_bookmark.xml. Then I was able to start Query Browser without this error.

Deleting the new (working) files and restoring the old (flawed) ones did not show this access violation again ...

I have just installed MySqlQueryBrowser (Sep 03, 2005, mysql-query-browser-1.1.14-win.msi) and I am experiencing the same problem. OS: XP Professional with SP 2. 

I was able to run the app at first. But then I invoked it from MySqlAdministrator via Edit Table Data menu item. From that point on the browser has been broken. Uninstalling and installing does not help. Deleting files from Application Data\MySQL does not help either.

Access violation at 005B2504. Read of address 00000000.

Same problem here ! I have tried to delete those files under ...\Application Data\MySQL and no success. I get the error as soon as I open the MySql Query Browser.

I have a related bug.
I get Access violation at address 005B2504 in module 'MySqlQueryBrowser.exe'. Read of 00000000

I've also noticed a similar bug; however this *doesn't* cause the Query browser to lock up or crash.

The following message appears down in the lower status-bar of the Query Browser window, not in a pop-up alert:

"Access violation at addresss 0057A3CB in module 'MySQLQueryBrowser.exe', Read of address 000000024"

However, the Query Browser continues to appear to work properly, and doesn't crash, lock up or cause any problems. I can also close the app without any problems afterwards, or needing to kill it from the Task Manager as others have mentioned....perhaps this is a different problem, then?

This message appears with a small gray circle with a "C" to the left of the message; clicking on this clears both the message and gray circle/"C".

It seems that I've seen this happen when in Edit mode and after the "Apply Changes" button is clicked, while either editing existing data directly in the Query Browser's result-window, or when creating a nes row of data in an existing table.

I have the exact same problem everyone else describes. I can make the access violation go away by clicking the status box directly to the left of the status box that contains the "access violation" error message, all at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes the key status box shows "File" with F underlined, sometimes it's just blank. But, as soon as I click it, I get control of the application and I can use it normally.

And, for the love of God, stop asking people how to reproduce this problem. The fact that everybody in the universe EXCEPT you is having this bug should tell you that you need to go find a Windows box that you haven't modified in whatever special modification you normally do to your boxes. Build one from scratch quickly and see what happens.

However What did fix it for me was deleting all the files in C:\User\(username)\AppData\Roaming\MySQL. (The same xml files existed here!)

after upgrading my system to windows 10, The Mysql Query Browser started encountering these same access violation errors.

First I deleted all the files in C:\User\(username)\Application Data\MySQL, but this did not clear up the access violation errors.

However What did fix it for me was deleting all the files in C:\User\(username)\AppData\Roaming\MySQL. (The same xml files existed here!)

Use MySQL Workbench instead.
