Description:
Error while storing the user information when trying to add or modify a new user. THis has been posted on the forum under general for a few weeks now and there doesn't seem to be any fix or workaround available. This problem is compounded by the fact that modifying the root user is a workaround for another problem which does not allow access to the database from phpmysql or oscommerce (see forum: #1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client ). So basically dead in the water at the moment.

How to repeat:
install mysqladmin 1.0.19 and mysql 4.1.11 on windows XP pro w/sp2. start mysql admin and try to add a new user.

Suggested fix:
none?

I have the same problem with the same software releases. I have tried
reinstalling the server instances with different configurations, and one time I
noticed the message 'incompatible fonts, latin1 and utf8' whenever I tried to
update user data (newuser or root). I tried reinstalling the server with utf8,
but I was supplied with latin1 again! I am going to revert to an old working
version of MYSQL until this is resolved!
