Description:
After installing Workbench 6.3.5 to solve the "Workbench 6.2 hangs on basic queries over SSH tunnel bug" (Bug #74557) I was also experiencing, I found that the changes made in 6.3.5 breaks access via SSH tunnels to older versions of MySQL 5.1.47 which require the "Use the old authentication protocol" advanced option. These SSH tunneled connections now receive a "Unsupported option provided to mysql_options()" error. If I turn off the "Use the old authentication protocol" advanced option, I get "Malformed packet" errors.

I did not have the problem using Workbench 6.2.4 I was using previously.

How to repeat:
Install Workbench 6.3.5 on Windows 8.1. Attempt to connect to a legacy MySQL server requiring the old authentication protocol via a SSH tunnel, in our case a MySQL 5.1.47 server running on Media Temple. You should get the error message in our case:

Cannot Connect to Database Server
Your connection attempt failed for user 'WebSpotOn-RO' from
your host to server at 205.186.157.48:3306:
'Unsupported option provided to mysql_options()'

Suggested fix:
My work around is to runn back to Workbench 6.2.4, but unfortunately this re-introduces the "Hangs on queries over SSH tunnel" bug #74557 to our newer version of MySQL 5.6.21-log running on AWS in RDS.

I didn't report 78947, however it does look like Adam Wortmann and I are encountering the same problem with 6.3.5.
