Actually the Instraller upgraded itself correctly a few days ago (to version 1.4.8.0)

Posted by developer: Fixed as of the MySQL Installer 1.4.8 release, and here's the changelog entry: The Installer would sometimes fail to upgrade itself. Thank you for the bug report, and sorry that the Installer sometimes fails for you.
