Description:
prior versions of mysql command line client allowed the use of the ctrl-w to remove the word just before the cursor. It now removes the entire line from the position of the cursor until the beginning of the line. This is the same behaviour that the ctrl-u combination does. This has been tested on 5.6.10 on CentOS6.3 x86_64 and Mac OS X 10.8.3
Both terminal on Mac OS X and terminal on CentOS 6.3 report the same terminal type.

2. enter some data, move cursor to middle of line, just after a word, hit ctrl-w
if cursor is positioned just after the "from", hitting ctrl-w should only delete the word "from"
the following happens:
mysql> users;
instead you should have the following :
mysql> select * users;
This is the same behaviour as hitting ctrl-u
If using the linux / mac os x terminal, the ctrl-w command behaves as expected.
Suggested fix:
Check what keycode is being sent to the terminal, its probably ctrl-u instead of ctrl-w

Suggested fix: Check what keycode is being sent to the terminal, its probably ctrl-u instead of ctrl-w
