Description:
When selecting "Linux - Generic" as download platform on

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/

there are two entries (one at the top, one at the bottom) labeled

* Linux - Generic 2.6 (x86, 64-bit), TAR
* Linux - Generic 2.6 (x86, 64-bit), Compressed TAR Archive

from just looking at the names this looks as if the later is just a compressed version of the former while the first is actually a convenience tarball containing all the RPMs and the second is the actual classic non-RPM binary tarball

How to repeat:
see http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/

Suggested fix:
Rename the first entry to something like

 "Linux - Generic 2.6 RPM collection (x86, 64-bit), TAR"

or

 "Linux - Generic 2.6 - all RPMs (x86, 64-bit), TAR"

to clearly show that this is *not* the classic binary tarball

Thank you for the problem report.

We no longer supply RPM rollup tarballs, so this issue is moot.
