Please, try to start it from cmd.exe command line window, with -swrendering option: MySQLWorkbench.exe -swrendering I wonder if this will change anything.

Also have the same problem, but on vista x64. I've noticed that no one knows what this is about and thus suggest random solutions (try installing python? wtf?) Of course -swrendering didn't change anything, why would it? Does anyone have any clue how to write software that isn't so ridiculously broken that crashes upon loading? Do you guys even test? Give me the code and I'll fix it. I ran the .net verifier and it all came back fine.

Thank you for offering help on fixing/tracking this issue. The source code for Workbench may be downloaded from: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/5.2.html (mysql-workbench-gpl-5.2.34-src.zip) We do appreciate!

Can you try running Windows Update to see if there's soemthing wrong with KERNELBASE.DLL ? I've been searching for similar problems in google and the most common causes seem to be: - corrupt kernelbase.dll - bad video drivers - bad drivers for other devices (like printer)

Someone found out this problem is caused by the wrong MSVC2010 redistributables being installed. You need the 32bit/x86 version of the redistributables, not the 64bit, regardless of what OS you're running, since WB is a 32bit app.

Thanks. Had same problem. Reinstalling with x86 version worked for me.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 Fixed the problem.

Thanks for the visual c++ link, after installing workbench worked like charm on windows 7 64 bit machine. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5555

Thanks. Installing C++ redistributable (32-bit) on win 7 (64-bit) worked for me.

This is a bit outdated to comment, but I got the same problem on Win 7 sp1. Had installs of both WB-gpl-5.2.44-win32.msi and WB-gpl-5.2.47-win32.msi crashing. Reinstalling Net Framework 4 and VC++ redist 2010 x86&x64 didn't help. (Tried VC++ redist 2012 but that didn't do any good either). Tried an old WB-gpl-5.2.34.1-win32.msi and that brought Workbench back. Martin

I read several forum posts about this with only more questions and seemingly shotgunned suggestions. Thanks, Alfredo for posting the fix installing x86 (32-bit) C++ 2010 runtimes even if on a 64-bit platform. That worked for me, too.
