Description:
When I try to connect a server to execute an sql query, either localhost or server I get the window telling me that workbench is about to open the sql editor, but it never does. Also the "Connecting..." message appears at the bottom of the workbench. When i check MySQL the connection is in fact open.

How to repeat:
1. Install MySQL Workbench 5.2.34 on Mac OSX 10.6.7
2. Click on "Open Connection to Start Querying"
3. Try to connect to a valid MySQL server, either locally or on a server.
4. The SQL Editor will not open.

What exact server version(s), x.y.z, you are working with? Had you tried to connect to the same server(s) with mysql command line client? How many databases and tables do you have there?

I am using mysql version 5.0.45 on a machine running Cent OS. I can connect with command line from my mac. There are 5 schemas, not not counting "test" or "mysql" with 82 tables. I can connect with a program called "Sequel Pro" and also with the old MySql Admin and Query Browser.

Does it open if you keep moving the mouse while the "Opening" popup is shown?

I am having the same issue. 5.2.34 OSX 10.6.8. Can connect to the server export databases etc. But the editor will not open when querying the database.

No it does not open if I keep moving my mouse while the opening dialog is showing.

Can you verify that no security software is blocking workbench (outbound firewall or anything alike)?
thanks in advance
[24 Aug 2011 19:26] Leo Law
I have checked my security settings and I have no active firewall or anything else that I can tell that would block the connection. As a side note the old MySQL Query Browser can connect with no problems, this leads me to the conclusion that there must be something up with Workbench, or a setting therein.

Please, check if the same problem still happens with a newer version, 5.2.35.

Just updated to 5.2.35, still have the same problem.

I just wanted to report I also have this problem now.

MySQL 5.1.58-1ubuntu1
Workbench 5.2.35 rev 7915
Kubuntu 11.10

I have the same Problem with
MySQL 5.1.58-1ubuntu1
Workbench 5.2.35 rev 7915
Kubuntu 11.10

I'm getting the same error using
Ubuntu 11.10
Workbench 5.2.35 rev 7915
MySQL 5.1.58-1ubuntu1

I've just installed the workbench today and this is the first time I've used it.

On my localhost, I can connect to the Server Administration tab and see the Server Status.

If I try to open a SQL Editor I get 2 more connections with a command of Sleep and the time just keeps increasing the longer I wait (and hit refresh).

The create EER Model from Existing Database works.

I can right click on a database connection and Start Command Line Client.
This might be another bug:
I'm using an NVIDIA card and Xinerama and seeing XRANDR isn't loaded if I try and start mysql-workbench from a prompt which may be relevant or not.

If I start MySQL Workbench from the Dash Home (Unity Launcher?)
The splash screen shows and just hangs,
I need to quit MySQL Workbench from the Launcher for the workbench window to show.

Please, check if the same problem still happens with a newer version, 5.2.36.
[5 Dec 2011 20:46] Leo Law
I just downloaded the latest version 5.2.36 and to my delight the SQL editor opened!!! =))))))

I have marked this bug as closed.

I'm presently seeing a problem that looks exactly like this on 5.2.41 CE revision 9724 on Windows7 x64.
[10 Aug 2012 10:27] Gordon Scott
Might be a clue here as the 'Opening' pop-up message says:

An SQL editor instance for '' is opening and should be available in a moment.
Please stand by...

I'm presuming that's two single quotes and not a double quote, as I'm unable to prove which.

I can open and show the database from the command line.
[10 Aug 2012 10:56] Gordon Scott
... or maybe not.

If I right-click and 'Query Database'

An SQL editor instance for 'Local instance MySQL55' is opening and should be available in a moment.

Please stand by ...

The database presently has no data.
