Description:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall MySQL 5.1 on Win server 2008. Reinstall did not work, was stuck at starting the service (after clicking on 'execute').
It seems that the uninstall didn't really go through smoothly. It didn't remove mysql windows service.

How to repeat:
Install MySQL 5.1
Uninstall MySQL 5.1
Install MySQL 5.1 (gets stuck here)

also tried to remove the MySQL windows service with sc delete (as uninstall does not remove it). And tried reinstalling again. Still same issue, gets stuck at trying to startup the service.

I am having the same problem after attempting to uninstall MySQL 5.5.8-winx64 on Microsoft Server 2008 r2. It is hanging up during the re-install at the point it tries to start the service.

Does anyone have a work around or solution? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same exact complaint. Starting service becomes impossible.
