Description:
When using compressed tables in the InnoDB Plugin, it is possible that only one record fits in a leaf page of an index B-tree. Traditionally, InnoDB B-tree pages always have space for at least two records.

The function btr_page_get_sure_split_rec() may return NULL when the page only has space for the record to be inserted, that is, the record should be inserted in the left half of the split B-tree page. Alas, btr_page_split_and_insert() would attempt to insert to the right half, which is already full. Then it would keep splitting the page further, creating numerous empty B-tree pages until filling up the buffer pool or the available disk space.

How to repeat:
Create and populate a compressed table containing mostly uncompressible data, with a varying record length. With some luck, you can trigger this condition. I was not able to repeat this myself.

Suggested fix:
When btr_page_get_sure_split_rec() returns NULL, make sure that the tuple will be inserted into the empty page half. That is, if the tuple to be inserted is smaller than the smallest user record on the page before split. insert it into the left half.
