Is it for local or remote MySQL server? What exact version of server, x.y.z, is it?

It is for a local installation. As I mentioned, I am totally "new" to MySQL, so probably something silly / stupid that I have done in the Setup. Going to do a complete UnIn/ReInstall, and start from scratch. Don't want to cause you guys headaches through my fumbling around in the dark!

Had re-install helped in any way?

Hi there Valeriy - and thanks for coming back to me. As I have said, I am a complete "newbie" to MySQL so please don't go out of your way or use your precious time to assist me in my "fumblings"! Yes - the ReInstall got things working again. Now I am "fumbling" around with ODBC, trying to get my other PC on a Peer-to-Peer Network to "find" MySQL! As I have said - total "newbie", so please don't let me take up your precious time with my fumblings. Paul
