Thank you for the bug report. Same in Vista Home Premium 64-bit, below its log: Trying to stop the server ... Server could not be stopped. Trying to stop the server ... Server could not be stopped. Trying to stop the server ... Server could not be stopped.

Many thanks for writing a bug report. We are on the way to implement full functionality of MySQL Administrator into MySQL Workbench. Unfortunately you are using an unsupported platform. More informations about supported platforms you will find here: http://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/tools.html More informations about MySQL Workbench you will find here: http://dev.mysql.com/workbench/

My God, what stupid formalism! Fact is that most likely Win7 will be released * to OEMs in July 2009 * to MSDN subscribers in August 2009 * for retails sale in September 2009. RC's are released in order to fix issues before a FINAL release. Additionally Miguel verified this on Vista too, didn't he? And finally I remember another (verified) bug report with the documentation that the list of supported Windows OS's is incomplete.

I am sorry. I did not mean to be rude. But Vista 64 *is* a supported paltform (no matter what the docs may say in this respect), so closure as "unsupported" is a mistake. I cannot dispute a decision to close as "won't fix", because that is solely a MySQL decision. But I find such decision unwise. In 3-4 months we will see large-scale Win7 deployment (and it will largely be 64 bit because of the state of hardware - even consumer model PC's ship with 4G). MySQL should do like most other vendors do right now: work late nights to verify every line of code with Win7 RC (32 bit and not at least 64 bit). This issue is no critical bug of course. But the Tray Applet is *very convenient* when developing and testing client code that should work with lots of server versions. However I foresee that a future WB will be relesed including exactly the same Tray Applet code. At that time I can post a new report (even with Win7 as that will then be a 'supported platform') and we start the discussion all over again! In my opinion you are wasting everybody's time - including your own - with such formalistic approach!

I am re-opening. I want a clear statement if Vista64 is a 'supported platform'!

Windows XP - 64 bit then? :-)

and Windows 2003 and 2008 servers also are available as 64 bit! (don't be frightened .. Windows is still much more simple in this respect as compared to the wide variety of Linux's)

Let me clarify this. Win 7 is indeed an unsupported platform, so our first assessment was right. Adding Vista (64) to the equation makes it a bit more complicated, because we have worked on getting the old GUI tools working there properly. However, due to resource constraints we have to set priorities, which means the tray application won't be fixed (there is an easy workaround: start it as administrator, services should/can be manipulated as administrator only, anyway). The functionality of MySQL Administrator is planned to re-appear in MySQL Workbench.

This is OK, of course. But WB should ship with a similar feature then (because it is a very nice feature for Windows users) - also working on 64 bit!
