Description:
Once a file has been opened, the File->New menu entry is unable to create new files- button is without function.

Actually- retrying this I can now see a warning message. It appears this was non-modal in the first case and popped up somewhere behind the screen?

Indeed, "New file" dialog box is not modal, and it can be hidden by other windows.

A note has been added to the 5.15 changelog: 

The New File dialog box is non-modal, and could be hidden by other windows. The dialog box is now always drawn on top of other windows.
