Description:
I noticed that the mysql.server startup script still defaults to using the mysqld_safe wrapper script by default. As the IM was introduced in MySQL 5.0 already, wouldn't it make sense to enable it by default for 5.1 and up?

How to repeat:
Install a MySQL 5.1 release, observe that it still uses mysqld_safe by default

Suggested fix:
Enable the IM in mysql.server by default, document that using mysqld_safe is deprecated

Thank you for a reasonable feature request.

If you consider making this change, please also consider changing the way how the IM is enabled - hacking the init script is not the appropriate way. Please see BUG#17953 about this. Thanks!

Looks like this has already been done, closing this one as resolved.
