Description:
While creating an ODBC datasource I try to select the database from the drop down list, but each entry is unreadable (something like "P!=[]") even if the number seems to be correct.

Same thing here.

Windows XP Service Pack 2
MySQL/Connector ODBC v5

MySQL 4.1.14 running on Gentoo Linux

The server system's charset is UTF-8. Maybe it has something to do?

Yes; c/odbc v5 has a problem in this regard. Thanks for reporting this bug but for now one must use c/odbc v3 or wait for a future release of c/odbc v5.
