It just silently ignores them. I'm pretty sure this is correct. I also tried using the mysqld_multi from 5.1.19 with my 5.0.38 installed version, and it failed there too. It would be nice to be able to define each mysql instance in a different configfile (eg mysqld1.cnf, mysqld2.cnf).
