In 5.1.31 there are packages MySQL-shared-compat-advanced-gpl-5.1.31-0.*.rpm MySQL-shared-compat-advanced-5.1.31-0.*.rpm to complement the existing set of compatibility packages.

In addition to the existing compatibility RPMs for earlier products, a new set of client library compatibility RPMs were created for the "MySQL Enterprise Server - Advanced Edition" products. These are RPM to install instead of the normal "shared" RPM in case you want to include shared client libraries for older MySQL version.
