Description: From the documentation on the SOUNDEX function: "All non-alphabetic characters are ignored in the given string." This is not true. mysql> SELECT SOUNDEX('aap'); -> 'A100' mysql> SELECT SOUNDEX('"aap"'); -> '"100' It is either a bug in the documentation or a bug in the soundex algorithme. I think the last How to repeat: mysql> SELECT SOUNDEX('aap'); -> 'A100' mysql> SELECT SOUNDEX('"aap"'); -> '"100'
