Description:
On the mysql system tray monitor, select "action"->"manage mysql instances"

The opening window should have 3 pages: "service control", "startup variables", "server logs".

choose "Startup variables".
press the button "choose option file"

On a windows box, with no local mysql installation, an access violation will happen

an important point seems to be, that the list of "installed services" (bottom left / below the page selection) is empty.
