Description:
With older MySql Administrator I can/could change the default-collation in "Start up variables", "Advanced". I have at least done this with 1.0.3alpha and 1.0.7beta.

However, with the newer versions this seems impossible. The startup option default-collation seems to have disappeared from the GUI. I have checked 1.0.21, 1.1.7, 1.2.2beta.

Could you please return this option to the GUI?!

NB: This is related to Bug #18504, but this is a add-this-specific-option-to-GUI request, not a do-not-change/comment-this-unknown-option request.

How to repeat:
- (unzip/install and) open an old Administrator, e.g. 1.0.3alpha, or 1.0.7beta
- go to "Start up variables", "Advanced" and notice the startup option for default-collation
- (unzip/install and) open a new Administrator, e.g. 1.0.21, 1.1.7, or 1.2.2beta
- go to "Start up variables", "Advanced" and notice the missing startup option for default-collation

Suggested fix:
Reintroduce the field at the old location.

Work-around:
- open the .ini
- go to the bottom (section [mysqld] )
- add default-collation, e.g.: "default-collation=latin1_bin"
(NB: Bug #18504 reports that some Administrator-versions may comment this 'unknown' startup option)

Please, check MySQL Administrator 1.2.3 rc (from -r3 of GUI Tools). It has this option in plase, "grayed out" by default. Click on the small icon to the left of "Default Collation:", and you'll be able to set it.

As you advised I just downloaded MySQL Administrator 1.2.3, but it also does not seem to have this option.
It does have "Language", "Def. Char Set" and "Charsets directory" in the localization-box (all are grayed out), but I do not see "Default Collation".

Is it in another place, can I just combine "Def. Char Set" and "Default Collation", or is it something else?

Added version 1.2.3

Yes, there is no way to set default collation in MySQL Administrator if it is connected to 4.1.x(!). But when I connected with 1.2.4 to MySQL server 5.0.26 the option is there, in Localization group, just below Def. Char Set, grayed out. Please, check!

I checked it, and can confirm that the option is present for the MySQL server 5 (Administrator 1.2.3, Server 5.0.27). I would like to know why this is not available for older server-versions?

If I want to install Server 4.1.x is there any way to set this with any recent version of Administrator? And if not, can this be added to the new version (I guess I'll change it to a feature request)?
(My customers prefer to be one major version behind, to have a stabilized version, so it would be a very nice feature to have.)

And can it be added to the documentation?

I think, it is a reasonable feature/documentation request. Thank you for your persistence.
